The Municipality of Ayia Napa holds a record on its income from the beaches, (known as cots), the umbrellas and the water sports for 2017, reaching € 3,526,000 (including VAT) and recording an increase of 12%, compared to 2016, when revenue amounted to € 3,149,000 million euros.
Commenting on the new financial achievement of the Municipality, Mayor Mr. Yannis Karousos said that the result confirms the correctness of the decision of the Municipal Council in 2015 that the Municipality should manage the beaches, as it has proved that it serves Public Interest in a much better way.
In addition to the significant revenues, we have now become more equable and controllable on our beaches, while many new jobs have been created. Our services have also been greatly upgraded, since we now offer free wi-fi, safety deposit boxes and have greatly enhanced the safety of our beaches.
Mayor also said that it is also indicative that on a daily basis we are receiving praiseworthy comments on the upgrading of our beaches and a recent survey of the various features of the Municipality’s services (barometer) together with the organization of cultural, artistic and social events in the first place ranks 4.4 / 5, which is not accidental at all. Because of the management of the beaches, Mr. Karousos said, the Municipality has surpluses that allow it to carry out infrastructure projects and to be able to contribute financially to the large urban projects that are under way.
He also assured that the Municipality will continue to upgrade its services to the world. The City Council has recently launched a competition to upgrade beach services based on thematic beaches in order to achieve this goal.
The goal was to deliver a master plan for the services that each beach should have in view of its uniqueness and peculiarities.
