2017 has been a very good year in terms of arrivals of tourists for Famagusta, as – according to statistics – more than one million visitors came to the area and we hope that 2018 it will be even better. This was stated in the newspaper “Agia Napa” by Mr. Lakis Avraamidis, Director of the Famagusta Tourism Development and Families Promotion Company.
“I believe that if there are no unpleasant developments in the surrounding area, this year’s tourist season will roll very well and we hope that compared to last year we will have a record of arrivals and an economically good year.”
Mr Avraamidis added that “Famagusta has not only the largest number of arrivals, but also holds the record of overnight stays with a very significant difference compared to other destinations, and this means a bigger contribution to Cyprus’ Economy”.
”From the beginning of the year until the end of April, Mr. Avraamidis said “we have implemented the action program for the new tourist season of the Famagusta District, by taking part in important tourism fairs abroad and organizing various events”.
E.g., Tourism Company took part in a tourism fair in Ireland – another traditional tourist market for the Famagusta Province, which ten years ago was visited by 70,000 people. In recent years, due to the economic crisis in Ireland and the travel companies in the country, the Irish descent has fallen sharply.
He explained that after the launch of two flights a week by Cobalt, it is expected throughout the year that the number of Irish tourists will increase this year.
